Penn State Health expands reproductive endocrinology and infertility services to York County
Penn State Health will expand its Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility practice into York County on Monday, Nov. 1 when it takes over the care of patients of The Fertility Center LLC.
Dr. Samantha Butts, chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Penn State Health, and her team of providers will offer diagnostic and treatment options for couples desiring pregnancy and women with reproductive system disorders, in addition to obstetric care.
Dr. Robert Filer, the founder and director of The Fertility Center, will retire after 34 years of treating patients. His practice will close, and Penn State Health will begin seeing patients at his former practice site.
“Over more than three decades, Dr. Filer created and nurtured a highly respected, private practice,” Butts said. “We are honored that he has trusted us to take over the care of his patients, and we’re looking forward to helping them grow their families.”
Butts has already spent time at The Fertility Center, located at 130 Leader Heights Road in York, to get acquainted with the staff and patients. She said that she and her team will offer patients “the same compassionate care” they’ve had with Filer. “But now they’ll also have the benefits that come from an academic medical center — multidisciplinary care and access to ongoing cutting edge reproductive research for disorders such as endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome,” she said.
Michelle Munch, a certified registered nurse practitioner who has cared for patients at The Fertility Center since 2002, will join Penn State Health and continue to see patients at the York location as well as in Hershey. Filer will continue to consult with Butts and her team in the months ahead to assure a smooth transition for his patients to Penn State Health.
The health system plans to renovate the Leader Heights building beginning in January 2022 to accommodate expanded reproductive endocrinology and infertility services, maternal fetal medicine and pediatric services. During renovations, the building will be closed to patients, and the practice will move temporarily to Penn State Health Medical Group ─ White Rose, 80 Wyntre Brook Drive, York.
Pediatric specialties at the remodeled practice site will include cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, rheumatology, nephrology, complex care and surgical consults. The facility will house six pediatric exam rooms, two cardiac testing rooms and a lab.
Penn State Health anticipates renovations to be completed in spring 2023.
