Director's note
How did summer get here so fast? Just a second ago it was snowing, and we were all settled in working from home. The next thing you know, we are graduating students.
Now, the new residents are about to arrive, and we are all preparing for the next classes of students to start their journeys. Time really does go by fast.
Since it is that time for new student/resident orientations, I thought we could talk about what we cover these days. It used to be that we told the new students or residents how to search the library catalog to find books (or use the card catalogs if you remember those). We would talk about the different databases and how to use PubMed or Ovid Medline. And while we do still teach people about our resources like PubMed and reference books, there are so many more things the library has to offer. Here are a few:
One Button Studio: The One Button Studio (OBS) features a simplified video and audio recording setup that allows all faculty, staff, and students to create high-quality projects with the push of a button.
Tech Sandbox: The Technology Innovation Sandbox provides all students, faculty and staff with a dedicated space for discovery, experimentation, creation, and collaboration. Bring your complex problems or projects to search for innovative solutions, generate and test ideas, or visualize your data on the 9 panel video wall. Includes 3D printing, virtual reality software and hardware, and specific research software.
Liaison Librarian Program: Liaison librarians provide personalized help to students, faculty, and staff during their time here at Penn State College of Medicine and Hershey Medical Center.
As we ramp up to our busy time, I hope those of you that can are taking time to enjoy summer. Because in about 5 minutes it is going to be Halloween.
