Harrell Health Sciences Library Newsletter January 2020

Director's note
Happy New Year! I hope this finds all of you healthy and doing well.
As per usual, the end of one year and the beginning of the next usually is a time to reset our lives and our libraries. We are putting into effect our new strategic plan for 2020-2024.
I wanted to highlight some of our ideas that are directly related to our plan.
First, we are increasing the hours of use of our Technology Sandbox. We will now have the Sandbox open until 10 p.m. It will not be staffed after 5 p.m., but if you need to work with specific resources, you can now do so for extended hours. If you haven’t had time to come in and check out the Sandbox, please do. We have computers with various data visualization, qualitative research and statistical software among other programs. We have 3D printing and virtual reality capability. Come in and get your creative juices flowing.
Second, we are doubling down on technology with our first Health Care Hackathon. Save the date, April 16, 2020, to spend the day prototyping a solution to an obstacle in health care communication.
Finally, we will be hosting a National Library of Medicine exhibit arriving at the end of April called "Pictures of Nursing: The Zwerdling Postcard Collection." As always, we are working on planning an event to occur in conjunction with the exhibit.
In addition, we will be hosting an event with the Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) to highlight the new GWIMS book collection in the library. Date and time have yet to be determined. Please check our website regularly for updated information about these and other exhibits and events in the library.
I hope you stop by and see the library’s new vision for 2020!
