Harrell Health Sciences Library Newsletter
April 2021

Director's note

Spring is here! The sun doesn’t set until after 7 p.m., it is raining and not snowing, and the plants are starting to bloom. Spring is here because the fourth-year medical students recently opened of their Match Day letters. Spring is here because we are wrapping up reviews and reports about the previous year and it is time to start planning for the future.

I was recently inspired by my colleague Nancy Adams, who wrote, “A year ago, our lives changed more than we could imagine. And looking back, we all have people who helped us through, who showed up, who were there when we needed them. Maybe you were that person for someone else. Who comes to mind? I invite you to express gratitude to them this week.”

I think spring is a great time to show my appreciation and gratitude. I want to thank the Harrell Library team. My colleagues stepped up last year. We closed and reopened the library. We transitioned our services online. We found new ways to offer services. Everyone did the best they could during a unique situation and for that I say, “thank you.” I couldn’t have done it alone. They are all essential workers in my mind. Thank you Xiaoyu, Amy H, Alex, Marie, Esther, Lori, Robyn, Amy K, Nancy, Brad, Sharon, Seamus (and his troop of student and part time workers), Mike, Eliza, Robin and Ben.

2020 is a year no one will forget. Hopefully 2021 will be one as well, but rather for the good things like the vaccine and an end to the hate we are seeing across the country. With that, I thank you, the people who read our newsletter, attend our workshops, participate in our book club, and use our services and spaces. Cheers to a happy and hopeful spring.
