Internet live course: 31st Annual James Buchanan Memorial Lecture

The 31st Annual James Buchanan Memorial Lecture is a continuing education service of Penn State College of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, taking place as an internet live course.

Upon completion, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the statistics regarding gender disparities in orthopaedic surgery compared to other surgical specialties.
  • Identify three examples of implicit bias in orthopaedic surgery.
  • Identify one structural and one individual way to improve inclusiveness in orthopaedic surgery.

Guest lecturer is Kristy Weber, MD, the Abramson Family Professor in Sarcoma Care Excellence in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. She will speak on “Culture Change in Orthopaedics: How We Improve Gender Diversity and Inclusion.” Several members of the College of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation will also present.
