BERD Seminar: Open Science, Reproducible Research, and Statistical Reform

April 10, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Presented by Nicole Lazar, PhD

Is there a reproducibility crisis in science?  What is the difference between “reproducibility” and “replicability”?  What are questionable research practices (QRPs)?  How prevalent and serious are they?  And why are some advocating for changes in how statistical analysis is carried out and reported on (while others are pushing back)?  The current landscape of scientific practice can appear to be in turmoil, and statistics is at the center of many of the discussions.  In this talk, I will attempt to give a high-level overview of some of the major issues, as well as my personal perspective on the matter of statistical reform.
