CTSI BERD Seminar: Overview of Mixed Methods Research and Mixed Methods Surveys

January 22, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Overview of Mixed Methods Research and Mixed Methods Surveys by Lauren Van Scoy, MD on Jan. 22, 1-2 p.m.

Register here.

Mixed methods is a powerful research approach that leverages the strengths of using both quantitative and qualitative datasets to answer research questions.  There are several approaches to mixed methods that include several core study designs.  The three main designs are convergent, exploratory sequential and explanatory sequential designs.  Critical to successful and effective implementation of mixed methods is to ensure integration (or ‘mixing’) of the two datasets.  This presentation will provide an overview of the three core designs, integration approaches and will focus on various ways that mixed methods study designs can be used in the context of survey research.
