Farmers Market in Hershey Children’s Summer Events: Veggies Top to Bottom

An event every week that begins at 2:30 pm on Thursday, happening 7 times
Children of all ages can participate in this summer’s Cubs Caring for Our Community events and learn about good nutrition for the entire family through a weekly series of fun interactive activities and recipes.
June 20: Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts and Lettuce – Learn all about these common leaves of vegetables, or the clothes of vegetables. Find out how plants use leaves to interact with the sun and absorb and release air.
June 27: Broccoli and Cauliflower – Just like trees and shrubs can have flowers, vegetables also have flowers. Learn how to grow and prepare broccoli and cauliflower, which can be considered the flowers of vegetables.
July 11: Beets, Radishes and Potato – Learn about roots (beets and radishes), tubers (potatoes) and bulbs (garlic and onions). Discover when the entire plant is edible and how to eat it – fresh or cooked.
July 18: Kohlrabi, Celery and Asparagus – Learn the difference between shoot and stem vegetables. The stems and shoots of vegetables are the main above ground body part of the vegetable. The stem vegetables include kohlrabi, celery and fennel. The shoot vegetables include asparagus, bamboo shoots and taugé.
July 25: Sweet Squash, Cucumber and Tomato – Some vegetables are not regarded as fruits in daily life. However, they are the fruits of vegetables. Some common types of fruits of vegetables are sweet squash, cucumber and tomato.
Aug. 1: Basil, Dill and Parsley – Participate in a matching game to learn about common herbs in our region and how to utilize them to jazz up cooking.
