Humanities Grand Rounds: The Limits of Trust

November 3, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Text "Learn Finnish faster" next to a box for the fictitious medication Finnexiaby Zoom for its grand rounds lecture, “The Limits of Trust: Why Doctors Shouldn’t Use Satire-or Should They?” presented by Lisa Erdman, MFA, DA, postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Humanities.

In this lecture, Erdman will explore the dynamics of trust and responsibility in the relationship among patients, consumers and pharmaceuticals. As a point of discussion, Erdman examines the unexpected ethical and legal outcomes of her media art production, Finnexia, and how these outcomes reveal the limits of trust in medicine. The Finnexia project consists of an advertisement campaign for a fictitious medication that helps people learn the Finnish language and was presented in the central railway station in Helsinki, Finland.
