Inclusion Academy: Culturally Excellent Workplace and Learning Strategies- Caring for Military/Veteran Patients
May 14 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
At Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, during the 18-month period between January 2015 and June 2017, there were more than 19,000 patients with military backgrounds who presented for medical care. Of these, 7,000 were inpatient visits. These data serve as the basis for a better understanding of how to provide extraordinary care for patients with military backgrounds. In this session, participants will learn the significant terminology used in the military, health/medical issues facing military service personnel and veterans, how veterans navigate care between the Veterans Administration and commercial medical centers, and strategies for providing the best care of patients with military backgrounds.
