Webinar: Inclusion Academy – Delivering Meaningful Patient Care to Marginalized Groups
August 6, 7:00 am to 8:00 am
Inclusion Academy, established by the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is an educational program focused on providing students, faculty/staff and health care providers at Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine with cultural knowledge and understanding of various diverse/marginalized communities with the intention to foster diversity and inclusion in all facets of the organization.
It’s no surprise that some populations are more vulnerable and at risk for health issues than others, and that disparity in the health of these populations continues to increase. Such patients may face numerous obstacles and barriers when seeking medical care, including financial constraints, difficulties with communication, limited understanding of how to navigate the health care system, and a sense of exclusion in many ways.
For that reason, providers need to think differently and embrace new strategies that will assist them when caring for marginalized communities.
This session aims to examine the physical, psychological, demographic, environmental, socioeconomic and cultural issues influencing the health status of – and health care delivery to – members of vulnerable and marginalized populations and identify essential skills and strategies providers can adopt in their care of patients.
The session will be held via Zoom. Webinar links will be provided in advance of the event for those who register.
