Inclusion Academy: Embracing Gender Equality and Sexual Diversity
April 22, 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
The Inclusion Academy, established by the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is an educational program focused on providing students, faculty/staff and health care providers at Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine with cultural knowledge and understanding of various diverse/marginalized communities with the intention to foster diversity and inclusion in all facets of the organization.
Both gender equality and sexual diversity are big drivers of health and health disparities in our time. Health care has not been immune to the negative outcome of gender discrimination. However, research has shown that a gender-diverse medical workforce translates into improved patient results. One article noted that increasing visibility of LGBTQ and gender-diverse health care providers promotes a more welcoming environment for patients and staff and has the potential to contribute to gender diversity in the wider community.
This session will focus on the importance of gender equality and sexual diversity in health care, as well as covering some of the key terminologies often used in patient care.
The session has both in-person and virtual options; participants should select their preferred attendance method when registering. Zoom webinar links will be provided in advance of the event date to those who register for the online option.
