Inclusion Academy: Improving the Experiences for Patients with Disabilities
March 11, 2021, 7:00 am to 8:00 am
The Inclusion Academy, established by the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is an educational program focused on providing students, faculty/staff and health care providers at Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine with cultural knowledge and understanding of various diverse/marginalized communities with the intention to foster diversity and inclusion in all facets of the organization.
Individuals with disabilities are often stigmatized in the United States and around the world and can be more vulnerable to health complications than those without disabilities. However, they often receive inadequate health care or have more difficulty accessing services, resulting in health disparities. While it’s not expected for health care providers to be experts in every facet of disability, it is important to understand the steps to ensure patients with disabilities receive accessible and quality care.
The session has both in-person and virtual options; participants should select their preferred attendance method when registering. Zoom webinar links will be provided in advance of the event date to those who register for the online option.
