Inclusion Academy: Providing Inclusive Care for LGBTQ Patients
January 14, 7:00 am to 8:00 am
The Inclusion Academy, established by the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is an educational program focused on providing students, faculty/staff and health care providers at Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine with cultural knowledge and understanding of various diverse/marginalized communities with the intention to foster diversity and inclusion in all facets of the organization.
Discrimination and social injustice against individuals who identify as LGBTQ has been common in many areas, including health care. The Joint Commission has described the LGBTQ population as an “overlooked community” disproportionately affected by health disparities. Even well-intentioned health care providers may from time to time find themselves confused about how to ensure LGBTQ patients feel welcomed, heard and given the appropriate access to care.
This session aims to provide participants with recommendations and resources to use when caring for LGBTQ patients and that can help ensure patients receive culturally responsive care.
The session will be held via Zoom. Webinar links will be provided in advance of the event for those who register.
