Penn State Health Inclusion Week: Opportunities and Challenges in Increasing the Diversity of the Clinician Workforce

Penn State Health implemented a revision to its Human Resources policies (HR09) that requires racial/ethnic and gender diversity in both applicant and interview pools, with the goal of increasing the diversity of the clinician workforce. But will that be enough? Dr. Valerie Fitzhugh, associate professor and interim chair, Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (New Jersey Medical School), shares upcoming strategies to diversify the pathology field, as well some of the challenges presented and ideas for how the strategies can be applied to other specialties.
