Penn State Health Inclusion Week: Understanding the Impact of Critical Race Theory on Diversity and Inclusion Strategies
June 14, 8:00 am to 8:45 am
Penn State Health Day of Understanding
Critical race theory is a topic that has been in the news recently based on the idea that it advocates discriminating against white people in order to achieve equity. However, critical race theory is not a new topic but one that has been in existence for more than 40 years advocating that racism is part of all of our lives, regardless of an individual’s racial designation, and that people can inadvertently make choices that result in racism. Critical race theory has also been recently cited as the foundation for diversity and inclusion initiatives even though it may have no relevant. Dr. LaWanda Ward will provide an overview of critical race theory and both the myths and truths of the concept.
