The Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in collaboration with the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies of Penn State College of Medicine, is presenting a series of “Research on Race- and Ethnicity-Based Disparities” webinars.

Registration is required. A Zoom link will be sent to those who register.

Upcoming sessions include:

This RRED Talk features a panel of community leaders engaged in innovative research on disparities faced by Black and African American communities. These speakers will present, TED-Talk style, on the topics outlined below:

  • Claire V. Flaherty, PhD, Associate Professor of Neurology, Penn State Health: Health disparities and dementia risk in African American communities
  • Claire Hollins, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Dermatology, Penn State Health:  From payers to programs: highlighting diversity issues in dermatology.
  • Alain Lekoubou Looti, MD, MS, Assistant Professor of Neurology and Epidemiology, Penn State Health:  Recent patterns of vagal nerve stimulator use in the United States: Is there a racial disparity?
  • Alicia McDonald, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences:  Prostate cancer risk among Black men.
  • David Saunders, Director, Office of Health Equity, Pennsylvania Department of Health: Barriers to research in African American and Black communities, data collection disparities, and systemic racism—historical and current impediments fostered through a racist lens.

These talks will be followed by a Q&A session.
