The Penn State Health 22-Day Inclusion Challenge – June 2: Appreciating Our Multiple Identities

June 2

The Penn State Health 22-Day Inclusion Challenge
WEEK 1 – Theme: Foundation for Inclusion

June 2: Appreciating Our Multiple Identities

Our lives and our cultures are composed of many overlapping perspectives about people, but sometimes we only hear one story, based on who we interact with, where we live, or even where we work. In a Ted Talk, novelist ChimamandaAdichie tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice – and warns that if we hear only a single story about another person or group, we risk a critical misunderstanding and miss an opportunity to be a better person.

Activity: Watch Chimamanda Adichie’s Ted Talk entitled “The danger of a single story” here. Its running time is just over 19 minutes.

Please note: Some links may not be accessible on clinical workstations. Employees can view them on a nonclinical workstation or their personal device.
