WEEK 1 – Theme: Foundation for Inclusion
June 4: Weekend activities to wrap up our Foundation for Inclusion Week
This week, we have focused on the foundation for inclusion: respect, understanding our identities, and the impact of empathy for others. This weekend, we will bring these concepts together with the goal of moving beyond divisions to create greater unity.
- Read: The book “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent” by Isabel Wilkerson to help us understand how division has created some of our challenges to advancing inclusion.
- Note: The health system diversity office has purchased a limited number of this book available for those who want to participate but can’t acquire the book because of cost. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
- Watch: Stream the documentary movie “A Class Divided” here, provided free through PBS, to help us understand how easily division can create differences in perceptions and treatment of others and the power of bringing things together. This documentary is 53 minutes long.
- Cook: The recipe for Manoomin Elk Meatballs. What can be that better than an indigenous meat ball dish to accompany the documentary and book?
