SUMMARY:Topics in Addiction Seminar-- Reducing Return to Use in Alcohol Use Disorder: What role can affect dynamics play?
DESCRIPTION:This month’s Topics in Addiction Seminar will be presented by Braden Linn\, PhD\, LCSW\, Assistant Professor\, Departments of Family & Community Medicine\, Psychiatry & Behavioral Health\, and Molecular & Precision Medicine\, Penn State College of Medicine\, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. \nAs many as 80% of people will have a recurrence of use at least once while trying to achieve recovery from alcohol use disorder. New interventions are urgently needed to help patients sustain gains made during treatment. Affect dynamics\, that is\, how affect changes in short periods of time\, are a promising but understudied intervention target. This presentation will discuss the association of several well-established measures of affect dynamics and precipitants of return to use. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of promising implications for intervention. \nThis seminar will be recorded. To request a link to the recording\, please contact Sarah (sballard@pennstatehealth.psu.edu). \nTopics in Addiction is the monthly gathering of the Penn State Addiction Center for Translation. Topics are presented in accessible ways to try to be inclusive of all\, regardless of training or background. The program hopes to reach not only scientists\, clinicians\, and trainees at Penn State\, but also everyone in the community with interests in addiction and its widespread implications on research\, clinical work\, medical education\, policy\, and the community. \nContact Sarah (sballard@pennstatehealth.psu.edu) with any questions or concerns.
