Understanding the Connection Between Genetics and Breast Cancer

October 26, 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Join us for an educational session that explains the connection between genetics and our personal risk for developing breast cancer during our lifetime. The session will be presented by two experts from Penn State Health St. Joseph Cancer Center, a member of the Penn State Cancer Institute, Marc Rovito, MD, FACP, and Donna Lamp, RN. Dr. Rovito is a board-certified medical oncologist and internal medicine specialist. He leads our cancer program at St. Joseph’s, which is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Donna works closely with Dr. Rovito as our nurse navigator for our oncology patients. She helps patients understand if and when they should consider genetics counseling as part of their cancer risk or diagnosis.

Dr. Rovito and Donna will explain who is at higher risk, what that risk could mean, and where start with your own doctor to get a genetic counseling referral. They will also provide an overview of what to expect if you do participate in genetic counseling and when to have a conversation with your family members who may also be affected.
