Webinar: COVID-19 – Making sense of the data

June 18, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Colin Neill, director of engineering programs and professor of software and systems engineering at Penn State Great Valley, will lead a webinar titled “COVID-19: Making sense of the data.”

There is a lot of confusion surrounding the current pandemic, especially with respect to the overwhelming amounts of data that local and national government organizations — in addition to the media — disseminate regularly. The public’s need to understand this crisis has opened the door to a cottage industry of amateur data scientists who mislead with faulty interpretations and predictions. In order to help make sense of the data, this webinar will explore approaches to modeling the data, explain what the data represent and empower participants to be able to interpret data they are given.

Neill has studied complex technical and socio-technical systems for 20 years and is the author of more than 90 research articles. He is the founding program head of the graduate degrees in Data Analytics at Penn State.
