Webinar: Germano Lecture in Complementary Medicine – “The Americanizing of Chinese Medicine and Healing”

October 2, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Linda Barnes, PhD, MTS, MA, will present the second annual Germano Lecture in Complementary Medicine, part of Penn State College of Medicine’s Department of Humanities Grand Rounds series, via Zoom. Her presentation will be on “The Americanizing of Chinese Medicine and Healing.”

Dr. Barnes is a professor of family medicine, faculty in the graduate program in religion and director of the MS program in Medical Sciences in the Division of Graduate Medical Sciences at Boston University School of Medicine.

In her talk, Dr. Barnes will discuss the Americanizing of the different practices that make up Chinese medicine traditions, which cannot be fully understood without attention to the full range of Americans who have engaged in the process. In particular, this story requires us to look at the role of underrepresented minorities who have played a part in the adoption, expansion and, ultimately, Americanization of the related practices throughout the country’s history, and in all its regions.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
