Webinar: “Green Futures – Energy Education in a Post-COVID-19 World”
May 18, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
The current coronavirus pandemic has caused the price of oil to drop and education to happen remotely. How should institutions like the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State, which offers degree programs in petroleum and natural gas engineering as well as renewable energy and climate, adapt? Susan Brantley, director of the Earth and Environmental System Institute, and Lee Kump, John Leone Dean in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, will lead a panel discussion on the future of energy education.
Panelists include Jennifer Baka, assistant professor of geography; Seth Blumsack, professor of energy policy and economics and international affairs; Mike Loudin, former head of geoscience workforce development at ExxonMobil and a dedicated proponent for diversity in geosciences and energy education; Kevin Smith, CEO for the Americas, Lightsource BP; and Sanjay Srinivasan, head, John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering.
This event is being held as part of the spring 2020 EESI EarthTalks series, “Societal Problems, EESI Science towards Solutions,” offered by Penn State’s Earth and Environmental Systems Institute. See details about other events in this series here.
