Webinar: NIH Loan Repayment Program
September 28, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Those at Penn State College of Medicine with education loan debt, and who are engaged in research relevant to the mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), may be eligible for the NIH’s Extramural Loan Repayment Program (LRP).
The LRP was established to support the recruitment and retention of highly qualified health professionals into biomedical and biobehavioral research careers. LRP awards are based on an applicant’s potential to build and sustain a research career. Research funding from NIH is not required to apply.
The LRP repays qualified educational loan debt, including most undergraduate, graduate and medical school loans, up to $50,000 per year, for applicants who commit to engaging in research for at least 20 hours per week. LRP awards are competitively renewable. To quality, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have educational loan debt equal to or in excess of 20 percent of their institutional base salary at the time of award (July 1, 2021).
In this virtual information session, Research Development will explore the extramural LRP. Team members from Research Development will be joined by previous applicants and awardees from the College of Medicine, who will share their program experiences and answer questions. Registration is not required.
Applications for the LRP are being accepted online through Nov. 20.
