Moya Bailey, PhD

Dr. Bailey, an assistant professor of Africana studies and the program in women’s, gender and sexuality studies at Northeastern University, will highlight the  reconceptualization of southern medical students and their institutions that resulted from the Flexner Report in 1910. Emory School of Medicine was formed in the wake of the report, and she explores its creation and student population with special attention to the integration of women and Black students in medical schools nationally.

Dr. Bailey’s work focuses on marginalized groups’ use of digital media to promote social justice acts of self-affirmation and health promotion. She is interested in how race, gender and sexuality are represented in media and medicine. She currently curates the #transformDH Tumblr initiative in Digital Humanities and is the digital alchemist for the Octavia E. Butler Legacy Network. She is an MLK Visiting Scholar at MIT for the 2020-2021 academic year.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. For details, email Lori Ricard at lricard@pennstatehealth.psu.edu.
