Webinar: Understanding intersectionality – Bringing visibility to the experiences and perspectives of women of color

August 7, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

The AAMC is presenting a webinar titled “Understanding intersectionality – Bringing visibility to the experiences and perspectives of women of color.”

Academic medicine, and the country as a whole, is at a critical inflection point where massive change is needed. As AAMC and its affiliated institutions bolster efforts to address the dual public health crises of COVID-19 and systemic racism, close attention must be paid to the role of intersectionality, and institutions and individuals must acknowledge the limited visibility thus far of African American/Black women and all women of color regarding these issues.

During this first part of a webinar series on various aspects of women of color, participants will explore foundational elements of intersectionality theory, share experiences from members of the community and create dialogue on how institutions can maintain an intersectional lens as they continue their diversity, equity and inclusion journeys. This webinar kicks off a new collaboration on Women of Color between the Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS), the Group on Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) and other AAMC affinity groups.
