U.S. News & World Report has recognized Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center as one of the best hospitals for 2016-17 in ear, nose and throat care.
The Medical Center was also recognized as “high performing” in seven additional treatment areas: cancer, gastroenterology and GI surgery, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
“Our vision for Penn State Health is to be the leader in delivering safe, high quality care to patients throughout central Pennsylvania. Every day, across our organization, we collaborate to ask the question, ‘How can we do better?'” said Dr. A. Craig Hillemeier, dean of Penn State College of Medicine, CEO of Penn State Health and senior vice president for health affairs for Penn State. “The U.S. News and World Report rankings affirm that we are on the right path, and I am grateful to those whose hard work is reflected in this year's rankings.”
The U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 27th year, help guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies include objective measures such as patient survival, the number of times a given procedure is performed, infection rates, adequacy of nurse staffing and more.
“I'm very proud of our growth and accomplishments as a team, as our faculty members continue to be recognized as national leaders in clinical care, research and education,” said Dr. David Goldenberg, chief of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery. “We have made great strides together and are now poised to enter another chapter of our division's history with truly cutting edge clinical care and ambitious research initiatives.”
For 2016-17, 153 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty, while 1,628 received a high performing rating in one or more specialties, procedures or conditions. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals that were high-performing across multiple areas of care.
