Infertility counseling, testing and treatment available through Highmark Blue Shield

Penn State Health and the College of Medicine recognize National Infertility Awareness Week April 21-27 with a reminder of the infertility benefits available to employees through the Highmark Blue Shield medical/prescription plan. They include infertility counseling, testing and fertility treatment, such as assisted fertilization and fertility preservation.

For Penn State Health employees:

New for 2024, the health system has combined its individual medical and prescription coverage maximums into one cross-accumulating lifetime maximum of $30,000.

  • Visit Highmark’s booth in the Virtual Benefits Center to reference the comprehensive medical/prescription plan for coverage details.

While the applicable deductible, copayment and coinsurance apply, employees seeking care from Penn State Health providers and facilities will receive a higher level of benefits by using the Penn State Health home network.

Note: Penn State Health’s Catholic entities — Holy Spirit and St. Joseph medical centers and Medical Group practices associated with St. Joseph Medical Center — are subject to certain restrictions on fertility benefits.

Questions: Contact the dedicated Penn State Health Highmark representative at pshdedicated@highmark.com for questions about the medical/prescription coverage through Highmark. For College of Medicine employees

Employee fertility benefits did not change from 2023. They include a $7,500 lifetime benefit limit for assisted fertility testing, treatment and procedures covered at 90% in-network or 70% out-of-network after the applicable plan deductible.
