Penn State Health and Penn State Health Children’s Hospital to eliminate pink ID badges

What: Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State Health Children’s Hospital are standardizing all employee identification badges.

When: By Jan. 31, 2020, employees with pink background ID badges must replace them with badges that have white backgrounds.

Why: The original goal of the pink badge background was to identify employees who completed a child abuse clearance as a preventive safety measure. The need for that measure has become obsolete. All employees are now required to have criminal, FBI and child abuse clearances.

How: Employees may go to the Badging Office, CG608 (College of Medicine) to obtain a replacement now or take advantage of photo sessions in January.

Photo sessions planned for January 2020 (Photos will be taken at these sessions and badges issued to managers for distribution):

Badge office hours through the rest of January are as follows (in CG608 — ground floor):

  • Thursday, Jan. 30 — 6 a.m.–noon
  • Friday, Jan. 31 — noon–5 p.m.

Starting in February, office hours will return to normal, as follows:

  • Mondays – noon–4 p.m.
  • Tuesdays – 8 a.m.-noon
  • Wednesdays – noon–4 p.m.
  • Thursdays – 7 a.m.-noon
  • Fridays – noon-4 p.m.

Special photo sessions are now complete. All badges created from photo sessions have been delivered and mailed to supervisors and managers for distribution. These badges will be activated on Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. At that time, employees should begin using their new badge.  For applicable staff, the pink badge may be needed for Kronos time clock entries during the morning of Feb. 3, but the new card should be accepted after 1 p.m. Employees who have had their badge replaced in the badge office have completed the process
