Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center earns accreditation from American College of Radiology in four imaging specialties

The American College of Radiology has accredited Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center in four imaging modalities: nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography and ultrasound.

“Accreditation from the American College of Radiology is the gold standard,” said Bryan Schmalhofer, director of diagnostic imaging for Penn State Health Lancaster and St. Joseph medical centers. “It’s the most widely recognized accrediting body, and these accreditations reflect our commitment to providing the highest level of imaging quality and safety to our patients.”

The accreditations, each of which followed blind, peer-review evaluations by board-certified physicians and medical physicists, are for three years.

The American College of Radiology accreditation is awarded to facilities meeting specific requirements based on the association’s practice parameters and technical standards. Areas assessed include image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

Penn State Health Hampden, Milton S. Hershey, Holy Spirit and St. Joseph medical centers, as well as several Penn State Health Medical Group imaging locations, also have accreditations from the American College of Radiology in various imaging specialties.
