Children's Hospital hosts 5000 wishes celebration

A young Harrisburg girl who received treatment at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital is at Disney World this week. Prior to departing for Florida, Yasmine Conner and her mother were guests of honor at an event last week celebrating 5000 wishes fulfilled by Make-A-Wish Philadelphia & Susquehanna Valley since 1986. Yasmine was treated for an abdominal wall defect as well as conditions affecting her heart and lungs.

The event took the form of a grand send-off party for the five-year-old Yasmine, known to friends as Yazzy. She arrived at the Children's Hospital by limousine, dressed as Rapunzel – her favorite Disney princess. She and her mom then proceeded to the hospital's Treehouse Café where it was announced that Make-A-Wish had arranged for her wish to come true: Yazzy would travel to Disney World to see the floating lights as portrayed in Tangled, which tells Rapunzel's story. The send-off party also included a visit by the Harrisburg Stampede Dance Team.

Nationwide, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 226,000 wishes since it began in 1980.
