Flash mob and chorus highlight Hands-Only CPR training session
About 200 more people now know how to perform Hands-Only CPR after a weekend training session with experts from Penn State Hershey Medical Center. People cycled through The Hershey Story on Chocolate Avenue on Saturday to view a brief video and take part in interactive training activities. Those who completed the training then received complementary admission to the museum.
Among the highlights of Saturday’s event was when a ‘flash mob’ suddenly converged and demonstrated Hands-Only CPR while a chorus made up of Medical Center employees sang the Bee Gees hit “Stayin' Alive.” The song's tempo is 100 beats per minute – the same rhythm that the American Heart Association recommends for performing Hands-Only CPR.

Penn State Hershey is part of an initiative led by the AHA and other groups designed to train as many Pennsylvanians as possible on Hands-Only CPR. Since May 2013, our staff has taught the technique to more than 3,200 people in schools and at public events.
Most people who experience cardiac arrest at home, at work or in a public location die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. Hands-Only CPR is a way anyone can more than double a person’s chances of survival.
