Hillemeier named Business Diversity Champion of the Year
Dr. Craig Hillemeier, dean of Penn State College of Medicine, CEO of Penn State Health and senior vice president for Health Affairs at Penn State, was named the Business Diversity Champion of the Year by the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC on Dec. 12. He received the award at the 2017 Catalyst Awards for his leadership in promoting diversity and inclusion at the Medical Center and College of Medicine.
Hillemeier received the award at the 2017 Catalyst Awards ceremony in Harrisburg. His contributions toward promoting business diversity included the establishment of a campaign goal to increase scholarship funding for individuals of diverse backgrounds, as well as a scholarship in his name to help diverse individuals in graduate programs.
Hillemeier also meets regularly with the diversity organizations at Penn State Health. He supported the launch of the first alumni of color organization at the College of Medicine and attended the inaugural event to demonstrate his commitment.
In October 2016, Hillemeier announced a new rule that all executive-level positions at the Medical Center and College of Medicine should include at least one diverse individual (racial/ethnic minority, female, veteran or individual with a disability) in the interview pool.
