Penn State Health launches new primary care sports medicine specialty in Berks County
Three physicians able to provide range of care, including treatment for sports injuries
Three new Penn State Health physicians in Berks County specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries associated with physical activity, and work closely with other specialists to manage illnesses and conditions related to sports.
They are part of a new primary care sports medicine specialty offered by Penn State Health in Berks County, providing care ranging from routine checkups to treatment for sports-related injuries. Patients can schedule wellness visits and seek help with managing chronic conditions. In addition, the physicians are specially trained in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic injuries, including sprains, concussions and fractures.
The three board-certified family physicians, who are also fellowship-trained in sports medicine, are:
- Douglas Leder, who practices at Penn State Health Medical Group – Downtown Family Practice.
- Travis Miller, who practices at Penn State Health Medical Group – Fleetwood.
- Barrett Richard, who practices at Penn State Health Medical Group – Exeter.
All three also see patients at the orthopedics and sports medicine practice within St. Joseph Medical Center’s Medical Office Building at 2494 Bernville Road in Bern Township.
“From weekend warriors to elite athletes, we’re invested in all aspects of medicine as it’s related to keeping our patients fit, active and healthy overall,” Miller said. “We have the resources to keep the whole family healthy.”
