Connecting communities, celebrating diversity: Penn State Health Business Employee Resource Groups

Penn State Health employees have the opportunity to connect with others who have a similar background, while also helping to build a more inclusive environment. The Business Employee Resource Groups include six areas of focus: disabilities, military and veterans, multicultural, interfaith, LGBTQ+ and next-generation.

To join a Penn State Health resource group, complete this short survey.

“Our Business Employee Resource Groups are a cornerstone of helping us create a more respectful, safe and welcoming environment for our employees and patients,” said Hector Ortiz, program manager for diversity and inclusion. “They leverage diverse perspectives to impact patient support, marketing decisions and business development.”

Penn State Health now has 25 Business Employee Resource Groups in the Dauphin, West Shore, Berks, Lebanon and Lancaster regions:

  • Disability groups: Provide advocacy and informational resources to develop a welcoming and inclusive environment for patients and employees with disabilities, caregivers and advocates.
  • Interfaith groups: Connect individuals from diverse spiritual beliefs and backgrounds to foster a respectful and inclusive environment for all.
  • LGBTQ+ groups: Offer education, information, support and advocacy services to LGBTQ+ employees at Penn State Health
  • Military and Veteran groups: Recognize, support and advocate for the rights and needs of employees and patients who are in the military or are veterans of the armed forces.
  • Multicultural groups: Promote cultural awareness and knowledge, networking opportunities and professional development throughout the health system.
  • Next-Generation groups: Empower young, diverse and career-driven professionals through networking, mentoring and community outreach.
  • Black Physicians and Professional Staff Association: Provides faculty, staff and students of color with a sense of community, support, advocacy and mentorship.
  • Hispanic Professionals Association: Promotes an inclusive and equitable culture for Hispanic/Latinx professionals to create workplaces that reflect the communities Penn State Health serves and promote health equity by reducing disparities in care.
