Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center partners with Highmark to support community health

About 500 employees and family members took time from their weekend to attend the Oct. 16 family health fair at The Giorgi Companies’ office in Blandon, Pa., jointly sponsored by Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center and Highmark.
“Highmark’s partnership with Penn State Health and Giorgi allows us to support the health of the community in impactful and engaging ways,” said Karina Kane, senior client manager for Highmark.
The event featured on-the-spot health screenings, access to preventive health experts, games and activities, food trucks, trick-or-treat and a costume parade for the kids. In addition, Penn State Health providers administered more than 130 flu shots and offered blood pressure screenings and women’s health education.
“The Dental Clinic and Family and Community Medicine signed up roughly 35 new patients,” said Don Hirsch, practice manager, Family and Community Medicine Residency at Penn State Health Downtown Campus. “Our diabetes management team also provided education and shared information on our Blue Mountain Academy Farm Stand, Veggie Rx and Walk with a Doc programs.”
