St. Joseph Medical Center’s clinical lab, respiratory therapy program earn reaccreditation

Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center’s clinical laboratory and respiratory therapy program have both been awarded reaccreditation from the College of American Pathologists’ (CAP) Laboratory Accreditation Program. The program accredits the entire spectrum of laboratory test disciplines with scientifically rigorous, customized checklist requirements.

A team of eight inspectors evaluated St. Joseph Medical Center’s lab and respiratory therapy program against a check list of 2,000 standards and found no deficiencies. On-site surveys are conducted every two years.

“This reaccreditation is a testament to the dedication and expertise of everyone on our team and our commitment to providing the highest-quality service and ensuring the best patient care possible,” said Linda Gallagher, regional laboratory director for Penn State Health.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have granted the Laboratory Accreditation Program deeming authority, which allows the CAP inspection in lieu of a CMS inspection. CAP also holds deemed status with The Joint Commission.
