Eckert named chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine
Jill Eckert, DO assumed the role of chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine on Aug. 1 after serving as interim chair since July 2022.
Dr. Eckert received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She began her career at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center as an anesthesiology resident and served as chief resident, followed by a chronic pain medicine fellowship before joining as a faculty member. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Eckert has served in various leadership roles within our organization including residency program director for 13 years, vice chair of education for 10 years, graduate medical education and faculty senate.
Dr. Eckert’s clinical practice involves treating chronic pain with medication and interventional pain procedures. She served as a member of the inpatient opioid stewardship program and has performed clinical research and publications in areas including chronic pain medicine, complex regional pain syndrome, interventional pain, and education.
Dr. Eckert joined the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) in 2008 and has served in various capacities including question author, board examiner, and on the Standardized Oral Examination Committee. She is a current board member and serves on the Pain Medicine Exam Committee, Assessments Committee and Research Committee.
Throughout her career, Dr. Eckert has been recognized for excellence in teaching, patient care, and service. She is currently a professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine and vice chair for education.
