Four Diamonds Mini-THON reaches $70 million raised to help fight childhood cancer since its beginning in 1993
Mini-THON student leaders celebrate more than $6.2 million raised in 2023-24
HERSHEY, PA – Students in grades K-12 representing hundreds of school districts, spanning Pennsylvania and beyond, gathered in Hershey, Pa., today for Mini-THON Leadership Summit. The annual event kicked off with the unveiling of the total raised during the 2023-2024 school year – an astounding $6,272,608.32. Since its beginning in 1993, the Four Diamonds Mini-THON program has contributed more than $70 million to conquering childhood cancer.
The day-long Summit brings together student leaders and advisors focused on growth and inspiration to guide them as they plan their Mini-THON activities for the next school year. The day is centered on learning and collaboration, with students leading various break-out sessions to share their expertise and creativity.
Throughout the 2023-24 school year, student leaders and volunteers from more than 200 schools in Pennsylvania and beyond activated their student population to execute Mini-THON fundraisers and events that raised the more than $6.2 million total. All money raised through Mini-THON events benefits Four Diamonds to assist families with children being treated for cancer at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, and to fund innovative research at Penn State College of Medicine in pursuit of a cure for all childhood cancers.
“To witness thousands of students united in conquering childhood cancer year after year is inspiring,” said Suzanne Graney, executive director of Four Diamonds. “Their dedication and the generosity of our community provides hope for the future. Through Mini-THON, students become stronger leaders while helping other kids to beat cancer.”
Mini-THON is a Four Diamonds program coordinated by K-12 students at schools in Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Modeled after the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) more than 30 years ago, the multi-hour, interactive events engage hundreds of thousands of students each year to raise money that benefits Four Diamonds. The funding supports Four Diamonds families at the Children’s Hospital through high-quality pediatric cancer care and financial support, and fuels research seeking new treatments and cures for all childhood cancers.
The Mini-THON Leadership Summit is presented annually by Four Diamonds in collaboration with presenting sponsor MI Windows and Doors, by MITER Brands. Additional support for the event is provided by PNC, Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, Graphtech, and the Wickes Foundation.
