It’s a match: A journey toward Family and Community Medicine

David Waldron, a fourth-year medical student at Penn State College of Medicine, recently celebrated a significant milestone in his medical career—Match Day. Originally from Maryland, David matched at Forbes Hospital in Pittsburgh in the Family and Community Medicine residency program, a development he had been eagerly anticipating.
David’s desire to help others overcome barriers to healthcare and gaps in health equity led him to pursue a degree in medicine. What drew David to Penn State College of Medicine was its unique health system sciences curriculum.
“This innovative approach resonated with me and my aspirations to not only understand medicine in a clinical sense but also to appreciate the various social determinants that impact health,” said David.
David’s passion for Family and Community Medicine stems from the value it places on establishing long-term relationships with patients. He believes that these enduring connections allow healthcare providers to understand their patient’s needs better, ultimately leading to more personalized and effective care.
As he prepares to embark on his residency at Forbes Hospital, David is excited by the opportunities to provide full-spectrum primary care. He is also looking forward to exploring areas such as sports medicine and addiction medicine. David’s ambition extends beyond clinical practice; he also harbors an interest in academic medicine and hopes to teach future generations of medical professionals.
