It’s a match: Finding passion in patient care

When it came to choosing a medical school for Hershey-native Agustey Mongia, Penn State College of Medicine was a natural choice. The proximity to home allowed him to stay close to his family while embarking on this significant journey, and he got to celebrate his future on Match Day alongside that family as he found out he was headed south for residency.

After graduating from Penn State University with an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering, Agustey initially found himself at a crossroads, weighing the merits of a career in medicine against a more scientific path. After spending a few years in the industry, he discovered that his true passion lay in patient care.

“The tight-knit community at the College of Medicine is the perfect environment for medical training,” said Agustey. “Students gained a lot of valuable friendships in addition to mentorships and an excellent medical education.”

Now, as he prepares to transition to his residency in Family and Community Medicine at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in North Carolina, Agustey is excited about the opportunity to be on the front lines of patient care. His enthusiasm for building deep connections with patients and their families is evident, and he is eager to coordinate comprehensive care for those he serves.
