It’s a match: Looking forward to exploring internal medicine specialties

Dhruvil Shah got to play a special role in one of the most important milestones for medical students. He was able to stand up during Match Day and welcome all of his peers as they prepared to open their envelopes and find their residency destinations.
Dhruvil’s interest in science sparked a passion to learn about medicine and someday be a doctor. Growing up in York, Pennsylvania after moving from India, he often found himself fascinated by the intricate workings of the human body and the various ways to combat illness.
This passion propelled him to earn an undergraduate degree in Pittsburgh before he transitioned to the Penn State College of Medicine, a decision helped by its proximity to his family and its commitment to community health.
“At the College of Medicine, I thrived in an environment that not only fostered academic excellence but also emphasized the importance of making a positive impact on local communities,” Dhruvil said.
Going to medical school during a global pandemic is a unique experience – one that led Dhruvil to take interest in learning more about infectious diseases, particularly global and tropical illnesses.
As he nears graduation, Dhruvil’s excitement turns toward his residency at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Eager to delve deeper into the field of internal medicine, he envisions exploring various specialty areas in addition to infectious diseases, such as intensive care, cardiology, and hospital medicine.
Dhruvil is ready to embark on this next chapter, driven by a desire to make a difference in the lives of his future patients.
