It’s a match: Looking forward to growing with patients

Megan Gilroy is wrapping up her medical school journey at Penn State College of Medicine and, on Match Day 2025, looking forward to joining the Family and Community Medicine Residency Program at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Her path to medicine started a bit later in life, when, in her mid-twenties, she found herself captivated by the human body after watching a self-defense instructor treat an injury. It lit a spark that has grown into a passionate commitment to healthcare.
Before diving into med school, Megan spent years gaining experience in the medical field. From being a medical scribe to working as a medical assistant and volunteering at a hospital, she built a solid foundation that fueled her passion for family and community medicine.
“Family and community medicine is appealing because I like the idea of providing whole life care – getting to know patients from a young age and growing with them as I care for them,” Megan said.
Megan was particularly drawn to Penn State College of Medicine because of its unique accelerated pathways program and its focus on humanistic medicine. The mix of applying medical knowledge and reflecting on the human experience really resonated with her.
Now, as she steps into her residency at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Megan is filled with enthusiasm. She hopes to work with juvenile females in correctional facilities, demonstrating her dedication to helping underserved populations.
