Light Up the Night: First responders illuminate Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for young patients

On Tuesday, March 11, the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus was transformed into a dazzling display of lights as more than 100 vehicles from over 70 organizations converged for the annual “Light Up the Night” event. This heartwarming initiative aimed to uplift the spirits of patients and families at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.
The night sky was filled with the vibrant flashing lights of law enforcement, emergency medical services, and fire agencies from across central Pennsylvania. Participants included a diverse array of organizations, such as towing companies, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Derry Township Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police and Penn State Health Life Lion.

“Light Up the Night” is now in its fourth year, showcasing the commitment of local and regional agencies to support the community. The event not only provided a stunning visual spectacle but also fostered a sense of unity among first responders and the community they serve.
In addition to the impressive light display, participants collaborated to bring joy to young patients by distributing giveaways, including coloring books, notepads and stickers. These thoughtful gifts were designed to bring smiles and comfort to children during their hospital stay.
The event exemplifies the dedication of first responders and community organizations to make a positive impact in the lives of those facing challenging times.
