Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center receives national gold seal of approval for knee and hip joint replacements

Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Joint Replacement – Knee Certification and Joint Replacement – Hip Certification.  The Gold Seal demonstrates continuous compliance with the commission’s performance standards and highlights Lancaster Medical Center’s exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes by meeting the specialized needs of patients receiving knee and hip replacements.

“This certification underscores our commitment to providing safe, comprehensive treatment for our orthopedic patients,” said Joseph Frank, president of Penn State Health Lancaster and St. Joseph medical centers. “It reflects our focus on patient experience, quality and safety and the life-improving orthopedic care we provide right here in Lancaster County.”

The Joint Commission’s certifications recognize health care organizations offering clinical programs across the continuum of care for knee and hip replacements. The Joint Commission evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care, as well as to educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge.

“Our skilled, board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeons use the latest advances in the field and the most minimally invasive methods possible,” said Dr. Daron Kahn, Lancaster Medical Center’s interim chief medical officer. “Our team of experienced nurses, rehabilitation therapists and clinical staff help ensure that our patients receive the personalized orthopedic care they need—before, during and after surgery.
