Prime Anesthesia Associates joins Penn State Health

Move reinforces health system’s commitment to expanding patient access to convenient, expert surgical care
The team from Prime Anesthesia Associates, a Lancaster County physician-owned and operated anesthesia practice with three physicians and two certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), has joined Penn State Health, effective March 24. The health system has hired an additional full-time CRNA and six part-time CRNAs to support the anesthesia team. The moves are in response to growing patient demand for expert anesthesia care in Lancaster County and will help position Penn State Health for success as more surgical procedures transition to the outpatient setting.
The providers from Prime Anesthesia currently provide anesthesia services at the Surgery Center of Lancaster in East Hempfield Township, an ambulatory surgery center in which Penn State Health holds majority ownership. Physicians with Lancaster Orthopedic Group, an orthopedic specialty group in Lancaster County that became affiliated with Penn State Health in January, perform surgeries and procedures at the Surgery Center of Lancaster and the Lancaster Orthopedic Group Surgery Center.
“By hiring the excellent care team from Prime Anesthesia Associates and recruiting additional CRNAs to support that team, we are ensuring that our orthopedic surgeons continue to have superior anesthesia coverage at the Surgery Center of Lancaster,” said Dr. Safa Farzin, senior vice president of Penn State Health Medical Group. “The hirings will also support expanded services there, allowing us to improve patient access to the latest surgical treatments for a variety of conditions from our expert surgeons.”
Eventually, the physicians and CRNAs from Prime Anesthesia may extend their practice to the Lancaster Orthopedic Group Surgery Center as well.
“Our team is thrilled to be joining Penn State Health,” said Dr. Robert Garvin, a physician with Prime Anesthesia Associates. “The move will allow us to further strengthen our mission of providing the highest standard of anesthesia services while ensuring a seamless patient-centered experience.”
