Penn State Health Lancaster, Milton S. Hershey medical centers earn 2025 Leapfrog Top Hospital Awards for outstanding quality, safety

The Leapfrog Group has named Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center a Top Teaching Hospital and Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center a Top General Hospital for 2025. This annual designation from the national nonprofit organization recognizes excellence in patient care, including infection prevention, safe surgical practices, maternity care and preventing medication errors.
“Earning Leapfrog’s Top Hospital awards at both Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Lancaster Medical Center reflects our unwavering commitment to the highest standards of quality and safety across Penn State Health,” said Kyle Snyder, president and chief operating officer of Penn State Health. “These honors underscore the dedication of our physicians, nurses and staff to delivering exceptional care every day and ensuring our patients receive the safest, most advanced treatment possible.”
To qualify for the Top Hospital distinction, hospitals must rank among the best on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety. They must then achieve top performance in their category — Children’s, General, Rural or Teaching Hospital.
Of the more than 2,400 hospitals nationwide considered for Leapfrog’s Top Hospital Awards this year, only 156 were selected, including 73 Top Teaching Hospitals and 52 Top General Hospitals. Lancaster Medical Center was one of just two hospitals in Pennsylvania and the only one in Lancaster County to be named a Top General Hospital.
