Penn State Health names Mumtaz Darbar executive vice president, chief transformation officer

Penn State Health has appointed Mumtaz Darbar as executive vice president and chief transformation officer, a role that will drive strategic initiatives to advance the health system’s vision of becoming Pennsylvania’s most trusted health care organization.
Darbar joined Penn State Health in 2023 as its first chief clinical and academic integration officer, where she led efforts to align strategic planning between Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine. In her new role, she will lead efforts to align Penn State Health’s corporate strategy, objectives and key results. She will also oversee key areas that drive transformation, including Operational Excellence—encompassing change management and the corporate Project Management Office—and Population Health. She also will continue to provide transitional support to the College of Medicine while the search for a new principal business officer is completed.
“Mumtaz brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of mission-driven leadership,” said Dr. Michael Kupferman, chief executive officer for Penn State Health. “Her ability to balance growth with fiscal responsibility and foster collaboration will be instrumental as we continue to unify our physician practices and strengthen our integrated academic health system.”
Darbar will co-lead major projects such as unifying Penn State Health’s physician practices into a single medical group, working alongside Dr. Ken Wood, chief clinical officer of Penn State Health, to ensure alignment with the organization’s long-term goals.
Before joining Penn State Health, Darbar served as vice dean and vice president of finance and administration for the University of Chicago Biological Sciences. She also held leadership roles at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., and Mayo Clinic and The Mayo Foundation in Rochester, Minn.
