Penn State Health names new regional chief operating officer, chief nursing officer for West Shore

Penn State Health has named John Goodyear as regional chief operating officer and vice president and Tara Gardner as chief nursing officer for Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center and Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center.

Previously senior director of clinical operations, Goodyear brings more than 30 years of health care leadership experience across a broad spectrum of progressive leadership roles, including physician-administrative partnerships, medical group operations and shared services management. His leadership was integral to the opening of Hampden Medical Center and expanding its cancer service line.

As COO, he will oversee the day-to-day operations of Hampden and Holy Spirit medical centers, lead process improvement initiatives and collaborate with senior leadership to ensure exceptional care and value to patients, colleagues and the community.

“Throughout his career, John has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to quality, innovation and operational excellence,” said Leslyn Williamson, regional president, Hampden and Holy Spirit medical centers. “I am confident that his vision and leadership will help advance our strategic goals and strengthen the West Shore region for years to come.”

Gardner, previously director of nursing for critical care at Holy Spirit Medical Center, brings 16 years of experience in nursing leadership and patient care, including more than 13 years of progressive leadership roles within acute care settings. As CNO, she will provide strategic and operational leadership for nursing departments, align initiatives with organizational goals and champion efforts to enhance care quality, staff engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.

“Tara has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing nursing excellence and improving patient outcomes,” Williamson said. “She will continue to build on our strong foundation and guide our nursing teams toward even greater success, championing professional development and ensuring that our patients receive the highest standards of compassionate, high-quality care.”
